Summary

The Traverso Lab is a a multidisciplinary group of researchers and staff, led by Professor Giovanni Traverso, that support initiatives focused on developing clinically-relevant solutions to human diseases. Working under the fabrication team, I used my engineering background to contribute to the development of novel drug delivery devices. This experience was extremely impactful as it tested my work ethic, my appetite to learn, and my ability to communicate and work with others effectively.

Details

During my final co-op at Northeastern University with the Traverso Lab, renowned for its groundbreaking biomedical device innovations, I delved into an exhilarating realm of ingestible robotics and drug delivery methods. Despite my limited industry background, the experience proved both captivating and enriching, offering unparalleled access to cutting-edge resources. Working closely with a Harvard post-doctorate researcher and collaborating with experts from MIT and the hospital, I swiftly acclimated to the interdisciplinary environment, mastering various fabrication tools within weeks.

Under the guidance of a trauma attending physician, I embarked on a significant project early in my tenure, focused on developing a novel drug delivery device. Collaborating closely with the physician, we devised and executed experiments, leading to the innovative fabrication of drug-polymer matrix pills validated through High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and in vitro testing. Our efforts culminated in grant work that continues to progress, marking a rewarding culmination of my co-op experience in a stimulating and dynamic laboratory setting.
